Chinese Exercise Health Balls

chineseballs.jpgHave you ever used them?  The production of these balls date all the way back to the 1300’s.  The inside is hollow and each ball has a sounding plate inside.  One emits a high tone, and the other a low ringing bell tone.  According to Chinese Medicine, the hand contains many accupressure points.  Rotating the iron balls within the hand stimulates these points and leads to better circulation.  They are placed in the palm and then rotated in a circular manner.  Physical therapists often recommend the use of Chinese Health/Chi balls.

I highly recommend them to my students.  But I must warn you, they are a bit addicting. They strengthen your fingers and flexibility, which is great for piano and guitar students.   Chinese Medicine also claims that daily use of Chinese balls also improves memory, relaxes muscles, promotes sound sleep and relieves stress.  I also recommend these balls to voice students that are desperately trying to kick the smoking habit.  It gives you something to do with your fingers, during that awful withdrawl.   As they say,  ”Nature abhors a vacuum”. Replace your negative habit with a positive habit, in that “space” you have created.

To my current students - next time you come to the studio, ask to try them out

Have Fun!

Jennifer :)
