Maya takes piano and vocal lessons.  She has been picked as the KeyzWithEaze Student of the Month because of her excellent songwriting skills.  She has at least five originals - all completely unique and self-written - which she will be showcasing at the 2008 Recital at Willowbrook.  She has continually improved her singing and piano skills over the years.  Maya has also ventured into school musicals, such as Charlie and the Chocolate Factory where she played a singing Oompa-Loompa.  Congratulations Miss Maya!  I am very proud of your hard work and very excited about your demonstrated talent in song-writing.

Keep up the creative work!  Congratulations!

MISS AILA KHAN!  Aila is in first grade, and is currently studying piano.  She has GREATLY improved on note recognition on BOTH staffs.  She also consistently completes at least one song per week out of her Bastein Piano Basics Level 1 Book.  This is what Aila said about her love of music - “I like the sound of many notes coming together, meaning chords, and I like how a piano looks and feels under my fingers.  Whenever I play the piano, I can tell now if I’m playing the right notes or not.”  Currently, Aila’s favorite pianist is Lang Lang.

CONGRATULATIONS AILA!!!  Keep up the Great Work and Practice!

Chinese Exercise Health Balls

Posted by jennifer on 10 Jan 2008 | Tagged as: Chinese Exercise Health Balls

chineseballs.jpgHave you ever used them?  The production of these balls date all the way back to the 1300’s.  The inside is hollow and each ball has a sounding plate inside.  One emits a high tone, and the other a low ringing bell tone.  According to Chinese Medicine, the hand contains many accupressure points.  Rotating the iron balls within the hand stimulates these points and leads to better circulation.  They are placed in the palm and then rotated in a circular manner.  Physical therapists often recommend the use of Chinese Health/Chi balls.

I highly recommend them to my students.  But I must warn you, they are a bit addicting. They strengthen your fingers and flexibility, which is great for piano and guitar students.   Chinese Medicine also claims that daily use of Chinese balls also improves memory, relaxes muscles, promotes sound sleep and relieves stress.  I also recommend these balls to voice students that are desperately trying to kick the smoking habit.  It gives you something to do with your fingers, during that awful withdrawl.   As they say,  ”Nature abhors a vacuum”. Replace your negative habit with a positive habit, in that “space” you have created.

To my current students - next time you come to the studio, ask to try them out

Have Fun!

Drum Roll Please….

shaman-samuel-morningstar.jpg

SAMUEL MORNINGSTAR!!!  Samuel Morningstar has been an INCREDIBLE student for years.  Although his primary instruments are guitar and voice, he added piano very subtly into the mix this year.  Well, Lo and Behold, he has SKYROCKETED to success!  I am very proud to name Sam as the Student of the Month - not only because of his dedicated practice and committment to lessons, but for the SPEED at which he has learned the piano.  He is currently studying the works of pop-rock icon Elton John, legendary folk songwriter Leonard Cohen, Beethoven and popular standards.  He also has transposed 4 of his Original songs from guitar to piano.

Way to Go!  CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Jennifer :)
